Unwelcome transfer blow emerges for Arsenal – Report

Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern will not be pleased with the latest news coming out of West Brom as their summer transfer plans could be scuppered by a Premier League rival.

The Gunners have taken a blow in the race to sign Jonny Evans as the former Manchester United defender is set to reject a move to Emirates and wait for Manchester City according to the Mirror. The Northern Irishman has been the one shining light in a dismal season for the Baggies that looks almost certain to end in relegation.

West Brom rejected big-money offers for their captain in January from the Premier League’s elite in the hope of securing Premier League survival. They now sit 10 points adrift of safety with just five games remaining and surely a player as good as Evans will look to leave the Hawthorns.

The Baggies entering the Championship could be great news for both City and Arsenal as Evans reportedly has a £3m relegation release clause in his current deal at the Hawthorns. Evans rejected a £100,000-per-week deal to remain at the club and is believed to favour a move to City as he is currently still based in the North-West.

He would become the first player since Carlos Tevez to represent both United and City at one point in his career.

Landlord’s Verdict:

It’s bad news for Arsenal, who could certainly do with a player such as Evans. Missing out on such a strong defender for such a low price can never be seen as a good thing, though surely the Gooners have next to no chance in competing with City when it comes to buying players.

City fans, would you be happy with signing Jonny Evans? Let us know!
