Anyway, we all know that Manchester United are losing Paul Scholes at the end of the season and are therfore desperate to recruit an attacking midfielder to replace him. Apparently, Ji Sung Park just won’t do. The quest for somebody to fill Scholes’ boots has had many false dawns, with interest being shown in Tottenham’s Rafael Van Der Vaart and Blackpool’s Charlie Adam. But the quest may have just taken an interesting turn, if recent newspaper reports are anything to go on.
According to the Daily Mail, Dutch midfield maestro (my words…not theirs!) Wesley Sneijder was qouted on Dutch radio station Studio Ajax as saying ‘Do I want to go to United? It’s a beautiful club.‘ Although he did go on to say that he was happy at Inter Milan.
Sneijder has been one of United’s targets for a while now, and Sir Alex Ferguson is rumoured to be considering an offer worth about £25 million. Again, that figure is from the pages of the Mail, not my own head. Personally, I think it would be great to see Sneijder in the Premiership, and if I was a United fan I’d have all my limbs crossed hoping this story was true. A World Cup finalist, Sneijder has also played for Real Madrid and Ajax, so he clearly has a real pedigree.
Sneijder, much like Huntelaar is a player who’s rumours have flirted with the Premiership seemingly forever. One side who have been constantly linked with both men is Tottenham. Van der Vaart’s arrival at White Hart Lane was, it was suggested hoped to aid luring of such targets. But this appears not to be the case.
The 26 year old has managed 4 goals for Inter this season, though injuries have prevented him from making too much of an impact. Needless to say, when fit, he is more than a worthy replacement for Scholes.
That’s your lot! Enjoy your virtual pint! I’m going to wash my hands, because they stink of Daily Mail….
