The saga concerning Manchester United’s managerial position has taken a new twist today, with Louis Van Gaal turning down an international role in favour of keeping his current job.
Since leaving his post as Holland boss after the 2014 World Cup, where he guided the Dutch side to the semi-finals, Van Gaal has struggled to impress in the Premier League, with the Red Devils looking set to miss out on Champions League football next term.
An early exit for United from the Champions League in December heaped more pressure onto the Dutch manager, whilst United suffered a new blow in the Europa League as they exited the competition at the hands of arch-rivals Liverpool.
Van Gaal, who plans to retire from management when his contract with the Red Devils expires in 2017, has faced immense speculation that he may not see out his current deal, with Jose Mourinho the favourite to succeed him at Old Trafford.
However, recent reports suggest he will remain at Old Trafford and this reveal provides further substance to those claims.
