Michael Carrick is set to be offered a new contract at Manchester United once Jose Mourinho arrives at the club, according to The Times.
Carrick had initially feared that Saturday’s FA Cup Final win over Crystal Palace would be his last in a Manchester United shirt, with his current deal set to expire during the summer.
It is understood by the publication that Carrick has been told by the club’s hierarchy that he is in the manager’s plans for next season and that a new deal will be forthcoming in the next couple of weeks.
The news has delighted the United faithful who are present here in the Transfer Tavern, with several of the club’s supporters originally disappointed that the 34-year-old was set to leave Old Trafford.
The central midfielder has been a great servant for the Red Devils over the years and in ten years at Old Trafford he has played close to 300 times.
Manchester United fans, are you happy with this news? What does Michael Carrick bring to the first-team? Can he still produce the goods at the top level?
