For whatever reason, footballers just do not seem to learn that starring in adverts doesn’t lead to success, just mockery.
Just ask Joe Hart or the Blackburn Rovers squad after their respective adverts for shampoo brand Head & Shoulders and Lancashire’s public enemy number one Venkys Chicken.
But one advert that seems to have slipped under the radar features the Manchester United squad of a couple of seasons ago, displaying their finest acting skills in an advert for Turkish Airlines.
The likes of Wayne Rooney, the Da Silva twins, Darren Fletcher and former goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar all give breathtaking performances, whilst the notoriously shy Paul Scholes even makes an appearance in which he manages to mumble a line.
The advert is so impressive in fact, it even features a cameo from United legend Bobby Charlton.
Impressive stuff indeed.
But after watching it, you still get the feeling footballers should simply stick to the day job. No wonder Sir Alex Ferguson didn’t get involved himself.
