Video Jukebox – Oldham’s last minute equaliser against Everton

mattsmith.jpgFootball fans across the land will struggle to find a better thrill than your underdog side scoring a last minute winner or equaliser against all the odds.

The FA Cup has thrown up some delightful cupsets this season with the likes of Millwall, Barnsley, Blackburn Rovers and Oldham Athletic all in the hat for the quarter final draw.

Oldham had beaten Liverpool in the last round at Boundary Park but had since let manager Paul Dickov leave along with the rest of his staff as financial trouble worsened. The money used from the Liverpool win could keep them going and another televised game against Everton in the fifth round was their reward.

The Latics took the lead in the first half and were once again turning in a superb battling display against Premier League opposition.

However, David Moyes’ team showed their class and it wasn’t long before they were 2-1 up and looking comfortably through to the quarter final stage.

You can never write off an underdog.

Aside from Toffees fans, the whole country was urging another giant killing in the cup but it looked to be over.

Three minutes of the additional four had been played, corner kick to Oldham – surely not? Up comes the Aussie goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis, it is mayhem in the Everton penalty area.

You know what happens next… Take a look at the video below to relive the memorable moment for lower league fans and especially Latics supporters all around the country.
