Manchester United may have made their worst start to a season since 1986 but the mood around Old Trafford seems more positive than it did 12 months ago.
That is because United have assembled the most expensive squad in the country since and have talents such as Radamel Falcao and Angel Di Maria to call upon under new boss and consistent winner Louis van Gaal.
The slow start does not seem to be of too much concern to United fans given that the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and even reigning champions Manchester City have made poor starts of their own.
United’s biggest problem appears to lie in defence with it remaining a mystery as to why having seen £150 million spent on new talent in the summer, replacements for Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic were not seen as priorities.
In fact, the defending has proved so costly already this season that some rumours have suggested a move that would see Vidic return to Old Trafford after just six months at Inter Milan this winter.
And that has not been the only rumour concerning Manchester United, given their spending power and desire to strengthen further in January.
Here, we have identified five transfer rumours concerning the Red Devils that we see as simply unrealistic.
