The Times is reporting that Manchester City are close to securing a loan deal for former-Arsenal midfield powerhouse, Patrick Vieira. The 33-year-old Frenchman is looking for a move away from Inter Milan and is keen on a reunion with his former boss Roberto Mancini.
Mancini had suggested that no moves would be made before the game against Manchester United in Wednesday but talks with Vieira have been ongoing over the last 48 hours. Vieira is available as Inter have plenty of options in his position with players like Muntari and Cambiasso ahead of him in the pecking order.
The discussions are apparently at advanced stages and the only thing that could derail the move is any late interest from another Premier League club. Arsenal and Tottenham have both been rumoured to be interested in Vieira but as it stands only City have entered into talks with Inter Milan. Mancini is hoping that the promise of a permanent contract will convince Vieira to move to Eastlands. They are hopeful that a deal will be completed this weeks and Vieira may be available for the game against Blackburn on Monday.
Vieira is a hugely successful player; he has won 3 league titles in England and 3 in Italy. He has over 100 caps for France and has won the World Cup and the European Championship. As Mancini looks to build a team capable of challenging for honours, the arrival of a player who has experience of real success could make a real difference.
[Is there any substance to this and should this rumour Fly or Die?]
