Manchester City look set to complete a move for Patrick Vieira imminently, and Mancini has reportedly been given the go-ahead to spend in the region of £100million over the course of this transfer window. 20-year-old Danish centre-back Simon Kjaer is thought to be high on the City manager’s list of prospective targets according to The Sun.
Kjaer, who is currently at Palermo, was watched by Mancini’s scouts in a match against Sampdoria last night along with Sampdoria striker Giampaolo Pazzini. Kjaer may be the subject of a £18million bid in the next few days as Man City look to shore up their defence. They are currently short of cover at centre-back as Kolo Toure is away at the African Cup of Nations and both Joleon Lescott and Nedum Onouha are struggling for fitness. This leaves only Vincent Kompany and Micah Richards as their senior centre-backs with cover provided by youngsters.
The interest in Kjaer from the Premier League has been clear for some time with both Manchester United and Liverpool previously being linked with the young defender. They player is thought to be available for £11million in the summer but City may look to push through an early move by adding a greater financial incentive in the same way that they did with Nigel de Jong last year.
Meanwhile, the deal to bring Patrick Vieira to Eastlands is moving closer to completion after the Frenchman bid farewell to his Inter teammates last night; he is due in Manchester today to discuss personal terms with City.
