Cavani is a twenty three year old Uruguayan striker with Italian origins. He has made an impressive start in his loan spell with Napoli, a loan deal that was expected to be made permanent before the interest from the Premier League clubs.
He scored twice on his first start, a 2-0 win for Napoli over Elfsborg in the Europa League. He also scored on his Serie A debut against Fiorentina and then again at home to Bari.
Previous to going on loan he’d scored thirty four league goals for Palermo in one hundred and nine games. He’s played twenty one times for Uruguay scoring four goals, but has slipped down the pecking order since the emergence of Ajax’s Luis Suarez.
He made a number of appearances at the 2010 World Cup but was overshadowed due to the exceptional form of Suarez and Diego Forlan. He scored in the third / fourth playoff defeat to Germany in which he equalised to make it 1-1.
There’s no doubt Liverpool are in need of a good partner up top for Fernando Torres. Everton are also a bit lightweight up front with only Yakubu and Louis Saha of any proven quality, the latter regularly out with injury(s). Villa doesn’t have an out and out goal scorer. Ashley Young and Gabriel Agbonlahor are good for taking on defenders and getting a cross in. John Carew is a steady player and Emile Heskey is…well I don’t even need to explain.
All three clubs could do with a good striker in their ranks, and Edison Cavani has already shown he’s got quality. As you can see here…
