Our resident Aston Villa fans have been dwelling over by the bar to drown their sorrows after their club’s relegation from the Premier League, but they don’t look too bothered by The Mail’s report which suggests that their club want to offload Joleon Lescott this summer.
The Villans are expected to complete a wholesale clear out this summer and the former Manchester City defender is expected to be one of those who departs.
Lescott has been riddled with controversy in recent weeks following a series of inappropriate comments on social networking site Twitter. The 33-year-old has endured a pretty dismal season, both on and off the pitch, and could depart Villa Park as the club looks to balance their books financially.
Villa inserted clauses into all of their player’s deals which ensures that they are set to suffer a 50 percent pay cut, but word around the Tavern suggests that they will look to offload several first team stars.
Lescott has one year remaining on his contract, though our Landlord believes that Villa could be set to buy out the rest of his deal to ensure that he moves elsewhere.
