This caused quite the stir amongst the Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern…
With Petr Cech long since departed at Chelsea, the Blues in the Tavern thought they had the perfect replacement in Thibaut Courtois.
Often touted in the Tavern as the best young goalkeeper in the world, Courtois had been expected to take over the reigns left behind by Petr Cech – and be the man between the sticks for the best part of a decade.
This expectation made Courtois’ recent comments particularly difficult to take for the Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern.
Courtois recently revealed his intentions to Spanish outlet Marca to return to Spain, having built quite the rapport with supporters in Madrid – leaving Chelsea sweating on his long-term future in SW6.
Amid the fallout from his comments, the Belgian has quickly come out and played down talk of a departure.
Courtois said: ““I understand the commotion with the Chelsea fans”, adding “But I just meant that I want to return to Spain one day but it can also be after my career”.
Crucially, he also confirmed: “I’m happy to be at Chelsea”.
Whilst our landlord isn’t taking Courtois’ word – he still thinks that this is a good piece of news. He was under the impression that Courtois could be set for an imminent departure – but that doesn’t look set to be the case.
However, the Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are still fearing the worst…
