Wage War At Old Trafford?

What is a football story without quotes? Normally utter rubbish that’s what!  That doesn’t mean these stories aren’t fun to look at, if only to ridicule them somewhat.

Well those legends at The Sun have brought us a story  that many of you will probably slam me for passing on, but here goes anyway, remember just because I write it, it doesn’t mean I believe it, so put those pitchforks down and put out the fire and lets read on because interestingly The Guardian also have a story relating to the winger’s future….but a totally different one!

The Sun reckon that Manchester United appear to be in danger of losing one of their prize assets.  Since the departure of fellow Portugese winker Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani has stepped up and has began to demonstrate what a quality footballer he is.  He began his career playing for Sporting in 2005 and moved to the Old Trafford side in 2007 amid mass excitement around the club for a chunky £22million.

Originally he struggled to live up to expectations, and the more physical game took its toll on the player early on in his Manchester United career.  More recently however he has began to get to grips with Premier League football and he has been in devastating form for United this season, and he has become vital to the sides performances.

This is supposedly what is causing problems between the player and club.  The press are reporting that Nani is requesting a new contract despite him having three years to run on his present deal that he signed last March.  The deal he is currently on see’s him earn around £65,000 a week but now that he plays a bigger part for the club he believes he should earn more and be in line with Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov who earns £100,000.

The Old Trafford hierarchy have told the player that they have no interest in discussing a new deal with so long to run on his current contract, especially considering that it was signed and agreed so recently.  This is frustrating the flying winger who is said to now be considering his future with United.  Interestingly this comes after the player recently said he would like to stay at Old Trafford long term and emulate Ryan Giggs, so make of this whole thing what you will.

The Guardian are also covering Nani but from a totally different perspective, further demonstrating how bizarre the world of the transfer rumour is!  They are reporting that the midfielder is happy at Old Trafford but suggest that he may fancy a new challenge at the end of this season, they claim that he has instructed his agent to explore the possibility of a future for him Serie A.  Should this come to pass, you would imagine only the likes of AC Milan or Inter Milan would be able to afford the twinkle toed wideman.

Personally I am not convinced remotely by either story, the lack of quotes to me suggests they are someway wide of the mark, but its my job to bring you these stories not tell you whether they are fact or not, for that is the nature of the transfer rumour.  If the player is too leave the only near certainty would be Sir Alex Ferguson moving for Ashley Young this Summer.

What do you make of these stories anyway? Do you believe there is anything in them? Or like me do you question their legitimacy?  Either way, lets hear your comments below and join in the debate!
