According to Football Insider, West Ham are looking to sign Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama in the January transfer window.
The Kenyan has fallen out of favour with Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino after a succession of injuries. He hasn't quite been able to replicate his form from his first season at White Hart Lane after a number of lengthy spells on the sidelines, and is therefore surplus to requirements.
While this would be a very good signing for The Irons, adding a lot of defensive solidity to the midfield at The London Stadium, it may be a worrying sign of what is to come for fans. With constant rumours circling around current midfielder Declan Rice, this signing may be seen as a replacement to the 19-year-old.
Likewise, Man United have recently joined the chase for centre-back Issa Diop. Manager Manuel Pellegrini may see Rice as a potential option at centre-back , with the Kenyan replacing the Republic of Ireland international in the midfield. Therefore, Wanyama (valued at £27m on Transfermarkt.co.uk) allows the Argentinian the luxury of exploiting his more versatile players.
Another point worth addressing is that West Ham have had the propensity to sign injury-prone players in recent years, with both Jack Wilshere and Andy Carroll on the books with The Hammers. Obviously, this would therefore be a signing that would split fans, as they may not know how much they would get from the Kenyan captain.
There are certainly various permutations related to Wanyama's arrival, and while it seems like a great signing on the surface, there are certain negatives that may fill Pellegrini and fans with dread with regards to the future of some of their stars.
