The DailyFail has reported Neil Warnock is lining up a sensational move to bring Inter Milan veteran Marco Materazzi to Loftus Road as he continues his hunt to add experience to his squad.
They don’t come much more experienced than the 37 year old Italian. He has been employed at the San Siro for the past decade, winning five domestic tittles, the Coppa Italia on four occasions, a champion’s league winner’s medal and also helped his country lift the World cup in 2006.
It was the Final of 2006 that would fire his name to fame… unfortunately for the wrong reasons. It was the controversial moment when Zinedine Zidane head-butted Materazzi and was sent off in a moment of madness. This over shadowed the Italians equalising goal and spot kick to help Italy triumph, plus not to mention his successful career.
The 6ft 4” centre half has had a taste of life in the premiership before during a short stint a Goodson Park where he made 27 appearances receiving FOUR red cards.
Materazzi’ still has one year left on his current contract but Inter are believed to be prepared to allow the World cup winner to join up with a club in either England or the Major League Soccer in America for one season, before flying him back to Milan where he will hang up his boots and join Marco Branca, the director of football and continue at the club behind the scenes.
As he has previously had a run out on English soil in the past, I believe he may opt out of a return to the Premiership and follow the modern day culture, and enjoy a season in America.
I wonder if he has ever even heard of Queens Park Rangers? Sorry, can’t see it…
