The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to comments made by their manager, Antonio Conte about England and Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley. Barkley has struggled with injury since he swapped Goodison Park for Stamford Bridge and now the Italian has confirmed that Barkley will be playing for Chelsea’s development squad on Saturday as he continues his return.
Barkley signed for Chelsea in the January transfer window for a cut-price after his summer move fell through on deadline day. The 24-year-old has struggled over the last few seasons after an initial breakthrough into the Everton squad following a promising loan spell with Championship side, Leeds. Barkley had a strong connection at Goodison Park with Romelu Lukaku but was in and out of the squad under Ronald Koeman.
Barkley has managed to pick up 22 caps for England scored two goals. At the age of just 20, Barkley was apart of Roy Hodgson’s England squad that travelled to Brazil for the last World Cup. Although, it’s looking very unlikely that Barkley will be travelling to his second World Cup in a couple of months given his injury problems and inconsistent game time after the last two seasons. Chelsea fans will be hoping Barkley can get back to fitness and into the squad as soon as possible before the end of the season.
