The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are very proud of their side’s rich history of developing young players. The Red Devils are known, perhaps more than any other team in the Premier League, to invest in youth, and that has really paid off for them over the years.
However, for every Marcus Rashford, there are literally dozens of Luke Chadwick-type players that simply aren’t good enough to make it at Old Trafford.
Unfortunately, that’s likely the case for young Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.
A few years ago, Borthwick-Jackson’s future looked very bright. He got a little bit of game time under Louis van Gaal, and when he played, he generally looked pretty solid.
However, since then, it’s all gone downhill for him. His involvement in the Man Utd first team is now nonexistent, whilst a few failed loan spells have really taken their toll on the way he is thought of amongst fans.
Man Utd have a real shortage of left-backs at the moment, and if he was ever going to turn out in the role, he would have already done so. Luke Shaw isn’t fancied by Mourinho, and so Borthwick-Jackson would have theoretically been one of the next in line.
However, unfortunately for him, with Ashley Young getting in the team instead, Borthwick-Jackson hasn’t had a chance – and that is a clear reflection of how lowly Jose Mourinho rates him in comparison to Louis van Gaal.
A victim of circumstance? Maybe – but he seriously needs to consider his future at the club.
