The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern have been loving Mauricio Pochettino’s focus on youth development during his tenure in North London.
Though not all homegrown by Tottenham, several of England’s best youngsters have come of age at the club, and that’s a testament to how truly great the system is at the club.
However, not everyone is as lucky as Harry Kane and Dele Alli, and naturally, some players are going to fall down by the wayside.
Unfortunately for them, it often takes a move away from the big club in order to truly make it at the highest level, and one player that should certainly be considering going down that path is young Josh Onomah.
Onomah is an exciting attacking midfielder that provides solid pace and technique alongside excellent style with the ball at his feet. He’s a hard worker, too, and he’s versatile enough to play across the midfield and the attack. On his day, whilst on loan at Aston Villa, he is truly up there with the best players in the Championship.
His problem, though, is inconsistency. At the top level Premier League club, you have to be at your best every single week, and he just hasn’t got that part of his game down yet. That’s not to say that it won’t come, but to be able to perform consistently on the pitch, sometimes you need consistency off the pitch too. As such, perhaps another loan move wouldn’t be best for him.
Instead, perhaps a permanent move away from Spurs will give him the boost that he needs to truly make it. If he’s truly good enough to make it, Tottenham will no doubt come back to him sooner, rather than later – so he shouldn’t give up on his dream yet.
