Watch: Gary Neville weighs in on debate surrounding Mourinho’s dig at Chelsea

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are struggling to understand Jose Mourinho’s comments on the Blues in recent weeks…

The ex-Chelsea boss recently aimed a sly dig at the Blues, describing them as a ‘good defensive team’ – with the Portuguese boss seemingly ignoring the expansive, free-flowing football that has been on display at Stamford Bridge all season long.

The comments certainly drummed up a bit of conversation in the Transfer Tavern, and the latest person to add his insight to the conversation is Gary Neville.

Speaking about the comments on Sky Sports during Monday Night Football, Neville said: “When I watch Chelsea they looked balanced to me…I’ve never watched them this season and thought that they were really boring”.

A very good few points are being raised by Neville here, and when he describes Mourinho’s comments as ‘mischievous’ – our landlord thinks that he’s about right.

After all, comments by the manager are often taken out of context and often blown up. In reality, whilst Chelsea have been far from ‘defensive’ this season, Mourinho was probably looking to deflect attention away from his sides poor league standing at present.

The Red Devils currently sit 12 points away from the Premier League leaders Chelsea – and Mourinho has a lot of catching up to do.
