As quoted by The Mirror, Odion Ighalo has revealed he would like John Obi Mikel to join him at Watford with our Hornets here in the Transfer Tavern intrigued to see how that would work out.
The Chelsea midfielder has not featured once this season under Antonio Conte and with his contract up at the end of the season he seems set to be in his final campaign with the club.
At one time he was a pretty regular presence for the Blues but things, as they so often do in football, have moved on and now Ighalo wants his Nigerian team-mate to follow suit.
The striker himself has had a pretty poor season this year and has struggled for goals after being a real threat in the club’s campaign last time out.
He’s still thought of highly by many here in the bar, though, and so his opinions on Mikel are being respected.
The forward said:
“I would like it if Mikel joined me at Watford.
“He is my captain at the national team. Apart from that he is a very good player, very talented.
“There is no team in the Premier League that will not want to have such a player.
“I am happy I have played with him so I will be very happy to have him in my team.”
Watford are going well this season under new boss Walter Mazzarri and look set for at least mid-table safety if they carry on in their current manner.
They did lose to West Brom last weekend, though, and our landlord reckons they’ll be keen to bounce back against Everton this weekend.
