Watford are heading into the new season with yet another new manager in Marco Silva, hoping to steer clear of the same sort of form which saw them narrowly avoid the drop last term.
The Hornets fans here in the Tavern are pleased though with their new managerial appointment, and their confidence is high heading into the summer and new season beginning in August.
Our landlord has been catching up with the Watford fans this week, and they think that Silva seems to have the right idea in terms of transfers, as the capture of Derby man Will Hughes showed.
Last year, there were big shouts that main striker Troy Deeney could be sold on for big money, and our landlord doesn’t think this would be too bad of a situation, as long as they found a replacement.
That replacement? Leeds United striker Chris Wood.
The New Zealand international was sensational for the Whites last season as he smashed in the goals and led the line under Garry Monk to great effect, finally rediscovering the sort of form everyone knew he was capable of.
Wood is now a wanted man, and he looks ideally suited to have another crack at the Premier League if someone is willing to stump up the cash for him.
He is of similar mould to Deeney, but is only 25, and should be coming into his prime in the next few years. Leed will be hoping to keep hold of their star man, but Premier League money often talks, and Watford could well tempt him away.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
