Watford fans in the Transfer Tavern are in agreement that Quique Sanchez Flores has been hit and miss since turn of the year and it seems that club owner Gino Pozzo shares the same concerns with the Hornets’ form of 2016.
Despite securing Premier League survival and reaching an FA Cup semi-final, the Watford hierarchy will look to activate the 12-month break off clause in Flores’ contract and Italian coach, Walter Mazzarri, has been identified as a replacement.
The 54-year-old guided Napoli to a Coppa Italia title and fell just short of being crowned Serie A champions with club who finished runners-up behind Juventus. Mazzarri also managed Inter Milan before being replaced in 2014 by Roberto Mancini.
Mazzarri is already well known to at least one member of Watford’s squad, as defender Miguel Britos played under him at Napoli.
Transfer Tavern’s Watford fans would welcome a new face but believe the owners need to be very sure of a possible replacement as surviving in the Premier League is first priority.
