‘We miss you so much’ – Arsenal fans on Twitter show support for former favourite

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have been wishing a happy birthday to their ex-midfielder, Abou Diaby. The Frenchman was a class player on his day although he has been blighted by consistent injury problems that ultimately stopped him from reaching his incredibly high potential.

The midfielder missed an incredible 240 games through injury in his eight and a half seasons in North London, meaning he missed more games than he was available for in his long years at Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal side. Considering how well the midfield man played when he was fit, it’s a huge shame that Diaby couldn’t find a level of consistency due to his time on the sidelines, otherwise, we could be putting him in the same bracket as Yaya Toure.

Arsenal fans still have a deep level of respect for Diaby who unfortunately had to retire at the start of this season after undergoing ankle surgery that he’s still recovering from. Despite his injury problems, he remained a well-loved figure at The Emirates and even told the club not to pay him whilst he was out of action, bringing the fans to respect him even more. The fans would love to see Diaby return to Arsenal in some sort of coaching role, especially since they never got to see the most of him as a player.
