The Daily Mail have spewed out another ridiculous quote free transfer rumour surrounding Chelsea. The summer is well and truly here with the papers cramming the sport pages full of unfounded and crazy transfer stories.
The award for crazy transfer rumour of the week certainly goes to the Mail for their story implying Chelsea are ready to offer £15m plus £50m man Fernando Torres to Athletico Madrid for their Colombian hot-shot Radamel Falcao!
They claim Athletico have slapped a £50m price tag on the striker who scored 33 goals for Porto under Andre Villas-Boas and continued this form for the La Liga club scoring 24 La Liga goals.
He also boasts an impressive record in the Europa League, after becoming the first player to win the competition in successive seasons with different clubs he has also scored 29 goals in 29 Europa League games including goals in both finals for Athletico and Porto.
The state Athletico would prefer a cash only deal which completely contradicts their rumour.
I sincerely hope this rumour goes down like a led balloon as we at Chelsea have finally started to see Fernando Torre’s potential and he is a proven striker at this level.
I am a massive Fernando Torres fan and I feel he would still score the required goals with better service and if he was our first choice striker. Another reason this rumour is so ridiculous is if Drogba leaves and we complete this deal it would make Falcao our only striker so how would that work?
If Torres leaves the Bridge this summer we would have wasted £50m and 18 months of his career and our time. With that right service and manager El Nino could shine again as he has done his whole career.
Falcao is a tremendous talent and has shone in the Europa League, Portugal and Spain but the Premier League is a whole different ball game. Many strikers have arrived in England boasting great records and been flops, the intensity and power of our game is unmatched and some foreign players find this very difficult.
Falcao doesn’t have a great record at international level scoring only 11 times on 35 games for Columbia and this would be a concern for me also. Falcao plays alot like Torres and if we are willing to change our style of play and build our team around him then why not save ourself the money and do that for Torres like Liverpool did when he was the worlds deadliest striker?
What do you think Chelsea faithful…Keep Torres, swap him for Falcao, or sign Falcao AND keep Torres??
