The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are reacting to a story from La Gazzetta Dello Sport, that claims Emre Can has put pen to paper on a five-year deal with Italian giants, Juventus. The German midfielder’s future has been up in the air for a while now and it seems the inevitable has happened and Can will be swapping Merseyside for Turin in just a few months time.

The announcement of Can’s departure is expected after the Champions League final as the 24-year-old is destined to become Juventus’ first signing of the summer window. Liverpool fans will be sad to see Can go as he’s always played for the shirt and has put in many memorable performances across his four seasons with the club since coming to Anfield as a 20-year-old unknown midfielder from Bayer Leverkusen back in July 2014.
The major kick in the teeth for Jurgen Klopp’s side is that Can will be leaving on a free transfer seeing as his Liverpool deal expires at the end of this year, although there’s not much the club could’ve done considering they tried to open contract talks on a number of occasions with the player. The saving grace for Liverpool fans is the arrival of Naby Keita this summer from RB Leipzig. The deal was agreed last year and it provides a ready replacement for the departing Can.

We should not be bitter, he played for the shirt and celebrated every goal we scored. We should all thank him for his time in the shirt and move on. No one is bigger than the club.
