Newcastle United fans here in the Tavern are hoping for an injury free second half of the season, as they head into arguably the most important 3 months of the club’s history.
Rafa Benitez requires all of his squad to be fully fit and playing to their maximum potential if they’re to achieve the great escape, as a squad that was previously regarded as being Championship level has enjoyed a couple of additions during the January transfer window. Although, one of their new signing Islam Slimani is currently out with a thigh injury, as he’s set to miss the next two weeks of action. However, this isn’t the case as according to journalist Craig Hope’s personal Twitter account, he states that the injury picked up by Slimani isn’t as bad as first thought.
I'm told the thigh injury picked up by Islam Slimani this week is not as serious as first reported & there is outside chance he could make NUFC bench at Crystal Palace this weekend, although home match v Man Utd a week Sunday more likely.

The 29-year-old sealed a move to St James’ Park last night, one that sees him spend the remainder of the season with the Magpies, after becoming heavily out of favour during his time at the King Power Stadium. Indeed, two appearances in the entirety of the Premier League this season has seen the £19.8m-rated striker sent out on loan, as he continues to struggle with adjusting to the English top-flight.
Indeed, with fans slating the club for buying a player that seemingly wouldn’t be able to make an immediate impact in the side, these remarks can now be withdrawn as it isn’t as bad as it first may have seemed. As their crucial fixture against Manchester United next week looks to provide the Algerian with a tough test first up in his Newcastle United career. So should Benitez manage to pull off some magic against a tough Crystal Palace side at the weekend, it would put them in a commanding position to bolster their squad with the debut of the forward.
News that the Algerian may figure sooner than was expected could be huge in their survival hopes, as a clash with Manchester United is going to require Newcastle to display all the firepower at their disposal. Indeed, for a player that’s shown previous goalscoring abilities during times throughout his career, seeing him lead the line for the first time will be a welcome sight to Newcastle United fans.
