The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern were concerned when reports emerged, via the Times, suggesting that midfielder Mesut Ozil was suffering from an injury…
The German has been far from impressive in recent weeks, but Arsenal aren’t exactly blessed with midfield depth – and with so many important fixtures coming up, Arsene Wenger needs his strongest players available every week.
It will come as a boost to the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern, then, to hear that Arsene Wenger has rubbished reports suggesting that Ozil is struggling with his fitness – with the German reportedly set to return to training with the rest of his squad on Thursday.
According to the Evening Standard, Wenger said: “He practised in a session at London Colney [on Monday] and then we have two days off – Tuesday and Wednesday”.
“He will be in [on Thursday] like everybody else”, he added.
This is an interesting development, as it would appear as though Ozil is perfectly fit. Whilst he will be returning to Germany for a few days, it appears as though he is being given the same treatment as everybody else in the squad.
The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern will be hoping that the few days rest that their side has been given will be conducive to an upturn in results, as simply put; the Gunners haven’t been good enough. They are currently 10 points adrift in the Premier League title race, and could well be too big of a deficit to recover from.
