Wenger admits concern as Arsenal look to agree deal with attacker

The summer signings that Arsenal have made over the last few months have really excited the fans in the Transfer Tavern…

Sead Kolasinac went under the radar, but his performance against Chelsea proved that he is man made for the Premier League – whilst Alexandre Lacazette is the type of player that the Gunners have been crying out for over the last few years.

Still, though, there is one deal that the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern want to be signed more than any other: a contract for Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean still has yet to agree a new deal, and with just a year left on his current contract, hopes are beginning to fade fast.

Unfortunately for Arsenal, though, those hopes don’t appear to have much chance of changing – with Arsene Wenger recently revealing to SFR that he is “not optimistic” about the prospect of Sanchez agreeing extended terms. Significantly, he did note that the club want to strike a deal, but he failed to confirm that one would be found.

Thus far, Arsenal have remained fairly quiet on the matter other than stating their adamance that he would stay at the club this summer, but that’s a questionable decision without a new contract on the line given the risk of losing him on a free next summer.

Of course, there is still time to find a deal, but Wenger’s comments aren’t filling the Transfer Tavern with hope.

Landlord’s Verdict

Arsene Wenger rarely comes out and shows his hand like this, so it is safe to assume that things are not looking good for Alexis Sanchez at Arsenal.

In truth, the Gunners really can’t afford to lose him, and so if Wenger’s comments reflect the situation, the club really need to be preparing to that end. It’s very difficult to replace a seismic figure like Sanchez, but it appears as though they are going to have to try.
