For the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern, attacking reinforcements are required this month. The Gunners have struggled offensively this season, and with Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez’s contracts both set to expire at the end of the season, there is a real need for more quality going forward.
It came as no surprise to our resident Gunners, then, that reports are linking Arsenal with a move for a new attacker. According to Don Balon, Arsene Wenger wants to land attacker Lucas Vázquez, who currently plays for Real Madrid. Significantly, the player is said to be tempted by the interest, with Arsenal reportedly offering him regular football at the Emirates.
Vázquez has had a limited number of chances at the Bernabeu this season, with just 5 La Liga starts so far. This limited involvement could certainly give Arsenal the upper-hand in this deal, given that their attacking options are far worse than Real Madrid’s. As a result, the prospect of weekly football could prove tempting.
For his part, Vázquez’s lack of action can’t be put down to his own quality, as he has typically done well this year. Providing fantastic dribbling and technique, the winger is fantastic with the ball at his feet, and so he’d be a decent replacement for someone like Alexis Sanchez.
A move won’t be easy, though, and so Arsenal will have to work hard to tie this one up if they decide to move for him.
Though not a well-known name in England, Vázquez has impressed in Spain.
At 26-years-old, he’s entering the prime of his career, and so he’ll want to be playing regularly. If Wenger can offer him that, as he apparently has, a move would make sense.
His value, though, is likely to be high, and so Arsenal will have to spend big to land him.
