Wenger eyes defensive midfield ace

gonalons.jpgAfter their less than positive season so far, Arsenal fans at the Football Transfer Tavern are not best impressed with their club yet news in the Daily Mail may change this.

After the Gunners board gave their backing to Arsene Wenger and claimed that the veteran manager was safe at the club he has spent most of his career at, attention is turning to exactly who Arsenal can buy in the summer in order to at least make a better attempt at winning a trophy to end their eight year drought.

The Gunners are rumoured to be willing to finally spend big and want a new spine for their team in order to not only convince players such as Jack Wilshere to stay long-term but also to make an impression on the rest of Europe.

Lyon’s Maxime Gonalons is thought to be top of that list with the defensive midfielder showing time and time again exactly how good he is. Arsenal have long been in the market for a player who is in the mould of the 23-year-old and at such a tender age he still has plenty of time to develop and mature in a way that will make the initial outlay on him worthwhile.

Wenger has long been concerned that his side are too easily torn apart and wants some protection in front of the back four that he can rely on and put his trust within. Not to mention it will help free up players such as Wilshere and Santi Cazorla going forward to reach their full potential.

Considering Lyon is the gastronomic capital of the world, will Gonalons be on Arsenal’s menu in the summer? Rate this rumour below.
