Here in the Football Transfer Tavern we always seem to be talking about Arsenal and their plans to land new players this summer and given the latest story in The Sun this trend is set to continue.
Things have been looking bleak for the Gunners for a while now and even a top four finish is in doubt. Obviously the fans are not willing to accept yet another season without a trophy and next season even the man who could teach an ostrich lessons about burying its head in the sand, Arsene Wenger agrees.
The club are looking at German Under-21 international Sebastian Rode. The defensive midfielder has placed himself firmly on the radar of the North London club and is hopeful of a £7.5 million move in the summer.
Wenger feels that a top class defensive midfielder would improve his side no end and given the price and the youth of Rode, he has placed the young Bundesliga talent on his summer wishlist. The player himself is currently seeing out a 16 month contract and is refusing to sign another one with Frankfurt and it is clear that he desires a move.
Whilst he has admitted it would be a dream to move to the Premier League, given the fact that Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are also interested in him, a rather interesting battle looks set to commence.
Is Rode the type of player Arsenal need? Have you even heard of him Gunners fans? Let us know your thoughts below.
