The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are delighted with their side’s transfer business so far this summer, but they are expecting Arsene Wenger to demand even more action over the next few weeks…
It appears as though the Frenchman is hoping for some big changes before the start of the season, but according to Tutto Mercato Web, those hopes have now suffered a blow. Tutto Mercato Web report that Arsenal are keen on a move for Kalidou Koulibaly at the request of Arsene Wenger, but a move looks unlikely – with Napoli not interested in selling the Senegalese defender.
One of Europe’s most talented defenders, Koulibaly has impressed over the last few years – becoming a standout centre-half in Serie A. Strong, agile and excellent in the air – Koulibaly is, in many ways, the complete defender, and so he would be perfect for the Premier League.
Arsenal’s need for central defensive reinforcement is pretty clear. The duo of Shkodran Mustafi and Laurent Koscielny are both solid, but beyond them, Wenger is very short on depth. Not to mention the fact that Koscielny is already 31-years-old, and so it is unlikely that he will be able to continue at the top for more than a couple of years.
The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are right behind this move, so they are disappointed that Napoli aren’t interested in doing a deal. That said, the Gunners proved with their signing of Alexandre Lacazette that they aren’t afraid to spend big, so perhaps the Italian side could be tempted by a sizeable offer.
