Wenger makes big player admission as January window looms in the distance for Arsenal

Arsene Wenger has been a divisive manager for his last few years at Arsenal, and the fans in the Transfer Tavern have found this season particularly difficult to witness. It’s been a very up and down few months for the Gunners, and whilst their form has improved somewhat in recent weeks, it’s clear that there is a lot of hard work still to be done. As has often been the case recently, it is Wenger that has received the bulk of the criticism when things have gone wrong.

Unsurprisingly, then, the Frenchman’s latest admission to beIn Sports is likely to divide opinion once more. He has opened up about the future of both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, delivering an interesting tidbit of information on the matter.

Discussing whether Ozil or Sanchez will leave, he said: “No decision has been made on that front…We have to think about that to see where we stand with them at the end of December”.

This comment is significant for a few reasons. Firstly, it’s likely to frustrate fans that with less than two months to go, two huge decisions are yet to be made, and that lack of long-term planning can only be a bad thing for the Gunners. It also makes it unclear as to what Arsenal’s team will look like in a few months time, with each player seemingly as likely to leave as they are to stay.

In all, the lack of certainty here is frustrating the fans in the Transfer Tavern, and it’s pretty easy to see why.

Landlord’s Verdict

Arsenal would obviously like to keep each player, that much is certain, but it remains to be seen as to whether that will actually happen. They don’t want to lose them on a free, obviously, but they may have little choice at this point.

Whatever happens, a decision needs to be made as soon as possible, as it simply doesn’t make sense to go into next month with no real plan.
