The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are feeling apprehensive about the changes that are expected at the club in the coming months.
Arsenal Football Club appear to be heading towards a crossroads which will heavily influence their level of progression throughout the next half decade. The future of Alexis Sanchez will inevitably be pursued away from The Emirates Stadium, but the futures of the likes of Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere and even Arsene Wenger remain unclear.
Regardless of what happens, it seems fairly obvious that Arsenal need a change in personnel to prevent them from dropping further behind their top-four rivals.
Naturally, the change in personnel implies that players will need to arrive at, and leave the club in the transfer windows to come in order to for Arsenal to cement their place in the top-four once again.
And according to Goal, Arsene Wenger is planning on initiating a fire sale at the club very shortly, with the likes of Francis Coquelin, Mathieu Debuchy and Alexis Sanchez all set to depart North-London.
However, Wenger should be adding Alex Iwobi to his list of players to sell, and not because he attended a party before Arsenal’s FA Cup fixture last weekend.
Iwobi (valued at £9 million on Transfermarkt) has received a barrage of criticism for his behaviour, which is slightly unjustified considering he was acting how the majority of 21-year-old’s would at his age.
It also must be considered that Iwobi’s antics would have gone completely under the radar if Arsenal had beaten Nottingham Forest.
Since then, plenty of Arsenal fans have been calling for his departure, and Wenger should listen to these calls because the Nigerian international does not have what it takes to help Arsenal return to the top-four.
Iwobi’s record for Arsenal is respectable considering his age, but he has yet to prove himself against top quality opposition.
Arsenal are in danger of enduring a dark period of exile from the Champions League if they do not take drastic measures to improve their squad in the next two transfer windows, so Wenger must be bold and sell Iwobi by the end of the season.
