Wenger must secure Ozil’s future with the acquisition of £58.5m-rated Sanchez replacement

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are resigned to losing Alexis Sanchez this month, but they remain hopeful of keeping Mesut Ozil in North-London beyond the end of the season.

A resolution to the future of Alexis Sanchez appears imminent in the coming days following almost 6 months of speculation. The Gunners in the tavern are disappointed by Sanchez’s departure after his brilliant performances in Arsenal red since his arrival from Barcelona in 2013. Now that Sanchez’s departure appears inevitable, the supporters are urging Arsene Wenger to sign a quality replacement this month.

One name who Arsenal have consistently been linked with of late is Borussia Dortmund’s top goal-scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

According to reports in The Daily Mail, Arsenal are set to offer £53 million for the Gabon international this month to fill the void left by Sanchez.

The signing of Aubameyang (valued at £58.5 million by Transfermarkt) will undoubtedly be a fantastic acquisition for The Gunners and boost their short-term aspirations of achieving Champions League football this season, but perhaps more importantly, his arrival could persuade Mesut Ozil to stay at the club.

Ozil’s future has largely been overshadowed by speculation concerning Sanchez since the opening of the January transfer window despite the fact his contract is set to expire in the summer.

But his future should be Wenger’s primary concern now that Sanchez is set to leave the Emirates, and he must prove that Arsenal remain an ambitious club with the signing of Aubameyang this month.

There is no doubt that Ozil will have plenty of offers to consider come the end of the season, so Wenger must make a real statement of intent by splashing the cash this month and proving that Ozil’s best interests will be best served by remaining in North-London.
