Wenger plotting ruthless overhaul with double raid

The Arsenal fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are expecting a lot from manager Arsene Wenger this summer, with the resident Gooners fully expecting the Frenchman to secure a return to the Champions League at the first time of asking in the new season.

The Gunners fell out of the top four for the first time in Wenger’s tenure last season and the punters here want to see some big spending in order to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

With that in mind, they were please to hear news coming from Portugal that Le Prof is plotting a big money overhaul in the coming weeks.

According to reports from A Bola (via The Sun) Wenger is eyeing a £70m double raid on Sporting Lisbon for midfielder William Carvalho and versatile winger Gelson Martins.

Despite bringing in Granit Xhaka last summer the Gunners boss is still unhappy with his midfield options and is looking to add some mettle with the addition of Carvalho.

Furthermore, while Martins offers goals and assists from the right-wing our landlord has noted that he is also capable of dropping in as a full-back if needs be, a trait which could be valuable when the schedule gets packed.
