The Metro have a rather empty set of quotes from Arsene Wenger today in the Football Transfer Tavern as they note that the manager is sorry about the opening day defeat to Aston Villa.
In a summer where the Gunners promised to spend big money – finally – to bring in some world class signings to excite the fans and possibly even win a trophy they have failed to do so. Now however they have been bought back down to earth with a rather shattering bump after the capitulation against Aston Villa and Wenger noted
‘What hurts me is to disappoint people who love the club,’
‘I’m here to make them happy and when I do not I can only say sorry, come back and make them happy in the next game.’
As one of our punters quips, pretty empty words after failing to sign not only Luis Suarez but also the likes of Stevan Jovetic, Bernard and Julio Cesar and the manager even tried to blame the officials and their decision making. He noted
‘I didn’t like his performance, but more than his performance I didn’t like his spirit of how he refereed the game.
‘I didn’t like the fact the way the game was refereed and this is a deeper question that just one decision. I don’t like to lie, I didn’t like what he did.’
With the season now underway and the transfer window getting ever near the close, it seems more obvious than ever that the club need an influx of players, but will Wenger get anyone in time?
