Wenger set for ‘peace talks’ with Walcott

Theo Walcott’s future has been a topic often discussed over a pint here at the Football Transfer Tavern, and John Cross of the Daily Mirror believes Arsene Wenger has begun ‘peace talks’ with the 23-year-old as part of an attempt to keep him at the Emirates.

Arsenal have secured the futures of other young players such as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Aaron Ramsey and Kieran Gibbs, with Jack Wilshere also expected to sign a new five year deal in the near future.

Now Cross believes Wenger has begun talks with Walcott, and the fact he started up front in the 5-2 win over Reading on Monday night was the first sign of problems being resolved, as Walcott has grown frustrated at playing out wide rather than down the middle.

Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool are all keen on signing Walcott, although Wenger will be quietly confident of keeping the England man and hopes the fact so many of his team mates have penned new deals will convince him to stay.
