The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting a quiet few days on the transfer front…
After all, Arsene Wenger has stayed quiet throughout much of the month – with the Gunners seemingly keen to work with what they’ve already got at the Emirates Stadium.
A few departures were expected, most notably with a few young players, but even that has gone quiet in recent weeks – until now.
Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Southampton this weekend, Arsene Wenger has revealed the reason as to why defender Carl Jenkinson has yet to make a move away from the Emirates – and it is not due to their hesitancy to part with him.
As stated by the Daily Express, Wenger said: “He [only] has to agree personal terms but at the moment he has not managed to do that”.
This is a story that had been reported by ESPN last week, with sources telling the publication that whilst Arsenal had agreed a few with Crystal Palace to move Jenkinson on – the 24-year-old himself had yet to agree personal terms.
Whilst Wenger failed to mention which club they had agreed terms with, given the report by ESPN, it would make sense for it to be Crystal Palace.
With Jenkinson unlikely to get much game time this season, and Allardyce seemingly desperate for defensive depth – this is a move that makes a lot of sense. Jenkinson would likely play at Selhurst Park, so the main stumbling block could very well be wages – with the Englishman likely on a fairly high salary at the Emirates at present.
Our landlord thinks this deal could go down to the wire…
