Speculation about new arrivals at the Emirates Stadium have been rife in the Football Transfer Tavern today after Arsene Wenger hinted that he is interested in signing AC Milan star Stephan El Shaarawy in the January transfer window.
The Italian footballer of Egyptian descent is enjoying a fine season with Milan, netting 13 times in his first 16 games and Wenger is ready to bring him to the Emirates Stadium.
Wenger even spoke about his admiration for the 20-year-old last week admitting that he would fit the mould at Arsenal.
The French manager told Metro: “El Shaarawy is a very mobile, very technical young player. His philosophy fits perfectly with mine.”
He then did little to suggest that a possible move was unlikely after being quizzed on whether the Milan attacking midfielder would be an option in the new year.
“You never know,’ he added. ‘I just say I love the way he plays.”
Suggestions are predominant that he would cost in excess of £20 million and that Wenger would be ready to dip into the transfer budget to capture the midfielder in order to save the Gunners disappointing season.
El Shaarawy has earned three caps for the Italian national team and is widely viewed as a star of the future for the Azzurri.
