The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern aren’t feeling too good this week. Their side crashed out of the FA Cup against Nottingham Forest, ending their quest to retain their title at the first time of asking. It was a crushing blow for an already struggling Arsenal team, with their Premier League title hopes also now down and out.
Clearly, things need to change at Arsenal, and so a few major signings this month could be the perfect way to begin to improve things. Fortunately for our resident Gunners, they are looking to do just that.
According to Simon Stone of the BBC, Wenger is particularly keen to sign Jonny Evans this month, with a move of up to £25 million potentially on the cards. Significantly, according to Stone, Evans would be open to the move if it was made despite having a desire to remain in the north-west.
Jonny Evans a man in demand. @Arsenal and @ManCity both made contact. Understood Wenger particularly keen. Could pay up to £25m, inc Debuchy going other way. Player ideally would stay in north west (family base) but not going to ignore club of Arsenal's standing.

Of course, Arsenal are facing competition from Man City, and the lure of the likely soon-to-be Premier League champions could prove too much for Northern Irishman, but Wenger’s clear desire to land him could also play a part.
Clearly, a formal move could be forthcoming for Arsenal, and so if they are able to beat Man City to the punch, they could have a clear route to signing him.
An experienced Premier League defender, Evans would certainly add some solidity to the Arsenal defence.
Though clearly not a star-studded name, Evans has won the Premier League before, with Man Utd, and so he’s more than got enough experience to make the step back up to a club like Arsenal.
He’d be a no-nonsense defender, providing consistent quality at the back – which is exactly what Arsenal need.
Clearly, he’s not going to be cheap, but Wenger recognises the importance of investing in proven quality.
