The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for Alexis Sanchez to return to the side…
He has missed out on much of the Gunners’ pre-season preparations this summer following his involvement in the Confederations Cup, but fortunately for the fans in the pub, they aren’t going to have to wait much longer to see the Chilean.
Arsene Wenger has now confirmed that Sanchez will return to pre-season training on Sunday the 30th of August – at the same time as Shkodran Mustafi – which he notes is also the same day that the Gunners face off against Sevilla.
Crucially, however, Wenger revealed that he doesn’t know if the 28-year-old Sanchez will feature against Chelsea in the Community Shield, stating: “First of all you make a really good check up of where they are, how much they have worked during their break. After, once you know where you stand, they need an adjusted programme and to see how quickly you can fit them in again.
He continued: “Do you put them on the bench when they are not ready [to start]?…We’ll see.”
It’s an important game for Arsenal, so Wenger will surely want his best options available, but it remains to be seen whether Sanchez will make the cut. Wenger does appear keen for him to be on the bench at least, though.
The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are quietly feeling a little more confident now, with Sanchez not certain to be involved.
Arsenal have missed Alexis Sanchez this summer, and the speculation surrounding his future hasn’t done anybody any favours. However, with his return now on the horizon, perhaps the Chilean can put his future on the backburner as he looks to get back to doing what he does best.
From Arsenal’s perspective, they’ll want to get him playing as soon as possible, and with the Community Shield falling just before the start of the season, they’ll likely want him to get a few minutes at least.
Chelsea were dominant last season, and so the Gunners will need all the strength that they can get. With Sanchez in their side, they certainly stand a better chance of getting a result.
