There are reports that Arsenal are closing in on Udinese winger Gabriel Torje with a £20m deal, according to MirrorFootball.
The 21-year-old has been dubbed ‘the Romanian Messi’, whether this is because he’s 5ft 5in or due to the way he plays football, only time will tell but he is credited with a significant role in catapulting the club to third in Serie A, just two points off Juventus.
The Romanian only signed from Dinamo Bucharest for £9m in the summer, so Arsenal would need to splash the cash in order to prise him away from Udinese as his current contract runs until 2016.
Arsene Wenger has been interested in Torje since he played against since the Gunners in a Champions League qualifier in August.
The player’s agent confirmed that initial discussions have already began, Giovani Becali told calciomercato: “Yes it’s true Arsenal like him. There’s nothing official. We can say there have been talks, even when the player does not move.
“In January there is no chance that he moves. For June we’ll see. However, it’s clear that the player is happy in Udine.”
So Wenger may have his work cut to get his man in January but may have more luck in the summer, then again when it comes to the crazy world of football it’s never a good idea to rule anything out.
