Newcastle United supporters have been pretty despondent in the Transfer Tavern in the last few hours after seeing their side bow out of the FA Cup courtesy of a 3-0 defeat to Premier League champions Chelsea in the fourth round on Sunday.
Rafa Benitez’s men made it through to the last 32 after beating League Two leaders Luton Town 3-1 earlier this month, but their spell of failing to get past the fourth round since 2006 remains intact after a lacklustre display at Stamford Bridge. A brace from Michy Batshuayi as well as a free-kick from Marcos Alonso secured a comfortable victory for Antonio Conte’s side on Sunday, thus leaving the North East giants firmly focused on trying to preserve their Premier League status come the end of the season.
Subsequently, there have been many frustrated Magpies fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are praying their team bring in the necessary reinforcements between now and Wednesday’s transfer deadline to improve their chances of avoiding relegation.
And one man who could be headed to St James’ Park is Brazil international Luan, a 24-year-old forward who currently plays his trade in his homeland with top-flight side Gremio.
He has recently been linked with a move to Liverpool but reports suggest that he has been ‘offered’ to Benitez’s Newcastle, and could move to the North East if the Magpies meet his £17.5 million valuation in the final few days of the window.
And this news has stimulated quite a response from Newcastle fans on Twitter, with many fully expecting a deal to fail to materialise, for one reason or another…
Why would he even consider this circus.

We’ll bid £17m instead of £17.5m. Lose out. Say we tried.

. Watch Charnley offer £7.5m. Another one we couldn’t get over the line.

In Luan, there is no way #nufc will part with £17.5m – we’ve seen with Jorgensen where their limit lies
