“We’re watching, Wenger” – Club chief sends stark warning to Gunners boss over striker deal

The Arsenal fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern growing increasingly desperate to see some news filtering through of a big striker move, however, today brings news which is splitting the room.

Gunners striker Olivier Giroud has been in touch with Ligue 1 side Lyon over a move back to his home country this summer, the club president Jean-Michel Aulas has revealed.

Speaking to L’Equipe (via the Independent), Aulas warned Arsene Wenger that they are ready to pounce on a deal for Giroud:

“There has been an approach, at some point, for Giroud,

“He is a boy that we like, who scores lots of goals and who has a lot of ambition for Russia (World Cup).

“He told me personally that he wanted to take his time, that things were not completely defined with Arsenal, that he had a secret hope that he would be the number one striker next season,

“The key is Arsène Wenger. We are watching. We will try to very quickly sign a top European attacker.”

The French international has had to put up with being utilised as a ‘plan B’ all season under Arsene Wenger, despite consistently chipping in with key moments when brought on from the bench only to be named amongst the subs once again the next week.

Some of the Gooners here in the bar feel that it’s about time the 30-year-old moved on from The Emirates, however, our landlord has added that he could well continue to pop up with some key moments over the next couple of years.
