West Brom in bargain £4m raid on Scotland star, previously quoted double that fee

Matt Phillips

The West Bromwich Albion fans who are competing in a pool tournament in The Transfer Tavern this evening are discussing reports that the club have made an improved bid for a new winger.

The Birmingham Mail is reporting that the Baggiese have made a new improved £4 million offer for Queens Park Rangers winger Matt Phillips.

The two clubs are thought to have been close to agreeing a deal to take the winger to The Hawthorns last summer but the two sides couldn’t agree a fee, with the Rs then holding out for a much higher price.

However, in failing to achieve promotion back to the top flight last season QPR manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink knows that he needs to offload some of his higher earners.

Charlie Austin left West London for Southampton in January, and the Midlands outfit are looking at the Scotland international once more and for a significantly lower fee than offered last summer.

Is Matt Phillips worthy of a Premier League move, after such a poor season for QPR?
