West Bromwich Albion fans inside the Football Transfer Tavern have a potential summer signing to discuss, courtesy of sources at the Express & Star.
Steve Clarke is looking to make former West Ham United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea playmaker Yossi Benayoun his first signing of the summer, after the Israeli was released from his £90,000-a-week contract at Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.
Benayoun has failed to hold down a regular spot at any side since being sold by Liverpool in the summer of 2010, with spells at Chelsea, West Ham and Arsenal all proving unsuccesful.
Clarke will be hoping he can get Benayoun back to the level of form he was at during his first few years in England, and is willing to take a gamble on the 33-year-old.
However it is understood they will face a fight for the free agent’s signature, with teams in Italy, Spain and the United States all registering an interest. Relegated Reading are also keen to secure his signing.
Benayoun’s agent Ronen Katzev believes the player will make a decision on his future in the next fortnight.
Katzev said: “West Brom have registered their interest and now we are just waiting to see what other options are available.
“We have been negotiating with another club in the Premier League and clubs in Germany and Spain, so Yossi will have to make a decision very soon.
“He has been playing in England for a long time now so it has become like a second home to him.”
