West Brom fans playing poker in the Tavern will be intrigued by reports that their club are interested in signing highly rated Brentford defender James Tarkowski, according to Birmingham Mail.
Tony Pulis is rumoured to be looking into potential defensive signings as he aims to reinforce his squad this month.
And media speculation suggests that West Brom are set to rival Championship outfit Burnley for the services of the 23-year old.
Burnley saw their bid of £2.5 million plus add-ons rejected by Brentford last week, and while they are still interested in signing the Englishman, they could now face competition from the top flight as West Brom’s officials have apparently spoken to the player’s agent.
Brentford are said to be asking for a £5 million transfer fee, which may rule Burnley out of the race and give a top tier side like West Brom the advantage in completing a deal.
While West Brom are not currently short of centre backs, with Jonny Evans, Gareth McAuley, Jonas Olsson and James Chester at the club, Evans is the only one who is expected to remain at the Hawthorns next term.
Our landlord has been chatting with the Albion fans and thinks that he could be a promising player for the future of Tony Pulis’ defence.
