The Athletic have recently given some updates about the situation of West Bromwich Albion midfielder Sam Field.
Field sustained a knee injury earlier in the Premier League campaign and stayed out of action for multiple months before returning to the bench for the Baggies’ recent Premier League games. In their defeat to Manchester City though, the midfielder wasn’t even on the bench.
Should Field start against Fulham?
Field could feature against Fulham
The Athletic have released an article stating that Field was missing from the game against the Citizens as he had only recently returned from the injury and they were protecting him. The report though, went on to state that the midfielder is very much in line to face Fulham in the Baggies’ next game.
The article also states that Conor Gallagher was also rested for the game, so that they can preserve him for the upcoming tie against the Craven Cottage-based club. It also states that Field’s involvement in the next few games could well define the Baggies’ season, largely because they will take on teams who are currently around the relegation zone.
Field’s return could be a welcome boost
The article explains how West Brom are short of numbers and quality in midfield, saying that Jake Livermore is a shadow of himself and that Romaine Sawyers may not be suited to a deeper midfield role, so Field could give Allardyce an extra option in his side.
Since he can play in the defensive midfield role and as a left midfielder, he would bring some versatility into the squad.
In other news, many West Brom fans have been talking about Joseph Masi’s latest tweet – read more here.
