West Bromwich Albion boss delighted with the signing of Liverpool misfit

Rickie Lambert Everyone in the Football Transfer Tavern agrees it was a matter of when and not if Rickie Lambert left Liverpool this summer, with the only other question being where would his destination be.

West Brom Albion have ended up winning the race for the experienced striker’s signature, and Tony Pulis for one is delighted.

The former Southampton man completed his move to the Baggies yesterday, and then went on to score twice just three hours later on his debut, during a 4-0 friendly victory over Bristol Rovers.

The 33-year-old managed just two Premier League goals for hometown club Liverpool last season, having sealed a £4million switch from Southampton just over 12 months ago.

Despite those poor statistics however, Pulis is adamant he has got a ‘quality striker’ on board.

“It was important we signed him early enough for him to get some game time, because he needs game time,” Pulis told Sky Sports.

“As you’ve seen today, with the goals he scored, he’s got the quality in the final third that we’re looking for.

“And he’s a good lad. He’s an important signing for the dressing room. He’s on less money than he was at Liverpool, so he wants to play football.

“It’s important to get players like that, who want to come and play. He’s a player of great pedigree and we look forward to integrating him into our squad.”

A group of Baggies fans over by the bar in the Football Transfer Tavern are all pretty happy about the purchase of Lambert, with all of them hoping he can rekindle the sort of form he showcased whilst at Southampton!
